The Automat Post-Film Discussion

June 7th 1:45pm


For both showings of The Automat on June 7 (1:45PM & 7:00PM), members of the film’s Crew (Director of Photography Paul Mailman, Project Manager and Associate Producer Becki Chandler, and Producer Michael Harris) will be at the Grand to share their experiences making the movie and answer audience questions.


Paul Mailman
More about Paul: Paul Mailman’s work spans across the documentary and narrative worlds. He’s known for the Netflix documentary “The Rachel Divide”, “Nothing Fancy” which won a 2019 SXSW documentary jury award and for the Peabody Award winning documentary series “Nimrod Nation”. Paul was also the Director of Photography on the BBC documentary feature “Easy Riders, Raging Bulls” based on the best-selling book by Peter Biskind. Numerous other documentary projects are streaming on PBS, Apple TV+, Showtime, MTV and Channel 4 (UK). Paul’s narrative credits includes the IFP Searchlight Award winner “Hello” starring Eric Stoltz and Susanna Thompson and “The Man Who Counted” starring Buck Henry and Shirley Knight. Paul works aboard frequently. He speaks fluent Spanish, having lived and worked in Latin America.

Becky Chandler
More about Becki: Becki Chandler is a Seattle based film maker. She studied Interior Design and graduated from Bellevue College's extended design program. Her film credits include Production Designer and Producer for narrative, web series, documentary and live video game product launches at PAX. Becki has worked on award winning projects showing in over 65 film festivals. In addition to film she has continued to work in the luxury residential Interior Design industry for over 25 years.



MIchael HArrisMore about Michael: Michael Harris is a 12-time Emmy Award-winning network TV producer and photojournalist, honored with a News & Documentary Emmy for his work on the ABC News 20/20 special documentary presentation on the Las Vegas shooting, “Heartbreak & Heroes,” and a Christopher Award for his work on the 20/20 documentary, “Wonder Boy.” In addition to his 20 years as a Seattle-based producer, photojournalist and climate/wildlife specialist for ABC shows such as World News Tonight and Good Morning America, Michael has produced 37 long-format specials, films and documentaries, winning several prestigious industry awards.
