The Hand That Feeds

<div>In his microbudget first feature, writer, director, producer, and star Mtume Gant immerses the audience into the world of Ghost, an NYC rapper who has chosen a life of seclusion. When Ghost’s few remaining relationships in the outside world reach the breaking point, he is forced to confront what success in his artistic practice means in a society that he feels increasingly alienated from. Gant is a fresh voice in independent cinema whose approach to storytelling feels both fresh and lived-in. Gorgeously rendered with striking black and white cinematography, the film works to counter the over-aesthetized images of Blackness currently dominating cinema by employing a slow cinema approach that chooses to show rather than be showy.
