It's Our Birthday!

The Grand is turning 19 as a nonprofit today. We're celebrating with free birthday cake and storytelling at 6 p.m. tonight so pop by, say hello to our amazing volunteers, eat some birthday cake, and leave us a short written memory to help tell the story of this grand old cinema and what makes it a special place.

AUDIO System Upgrades

Speaking of turning 19, that's how old much of our sound system is. We are almost to our goal of raising $7500 to upgrade our aging sound system. Wish us a happy birthday by donating to help us reach our goal today!

Celebrate a Jazz Legend with our Local Jazz Station

We love jazz and movies, and we're celebrating both with the help of 88.5 FM KPLU this Friday and Saturday night. Join us to see the Miles Davis bio pic Miles Ahead at either 6:45 p.m. screening Friday or Saturday to meet jazz programming hosts. Friday: meet radio midday jazz host Robin Lloyd (who wrote a review of the film here) in theater. She'll host a giveaway of the movie's soundtrack and share more about the goal to Save KPLU. Saturday: meet KPLU's evening jazz host, Abe Beeson, in theater on Saturday at the 6:45 PM screening.

Special Screenings

The TCC Diversity Film Series continues in theater with an Oscar Nominated foreign language film telling the story of five sisters coming of age in rural Turkey, a true and inspirational story for music lovers, a film about defying cultural conventions of love, and a social justice documentary featuring a matinee Skype Q&A with the project's co-producer and director.

Later this month, we'll be screening a special documentary in theater to help raise funds and awareness for red wolf conservation efforts: the Red Wolf Revival is presented in partnership with our friends at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium on April 28 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are suggested $10 General Admission and $5 per student. Join us for a discussion, a raffle and more at this special event.

We'll see you at The Grand soon!
