What a year we’ve had!

This April, we celebrated twenty years of serving Tacoma and Pierce County as your local nonprofit art house theater. Thousands enjoyed and participated in the 2017 Tacoma Film Festival and our 253 Film Competition and party, setting new attendance records.
Grand Cinema 20th Party 2
Patrons loved The Big Sick, A United Kingdom, and Victoria and Abdul (our current top three films so far this year).

Hundreds of volunteers kept the popcorn popping and our theaters clean every single day. The cinema got a makeover with new carpet, state-of-the-art aisle and stair lighting, and a lobby projector.

We presented free screenings and learning opportunities at The Grand, University of Washington-Tacoma, King’s Books, and local schools to more than 1,600 students and community members; and nearly 2,000 people engaged with our film discussions and panels.

An exciting year of partnerships, connections, and programs

Students at The Grand
Our midnight movie series Weird Elephant went weekly and smashed late-night attendance records. We welcomed our friends from Meaningful Movies Tacoma and from the Sister Cities Film Festival who now screen regularly at The Grand.

We partnered for the first time with Seattle’s Three Dollar Bill Cinema, hosting their Tacoma Reel Queer Youth Film Camp screening, and the Best of the Twist Film Festival during Tacoma’s annual Pride Week.

More than 100 filmmakers traveled from all over the world for Tacoma Film Festival, where they connected with our community at post-film Q&As, presentations, and classroom visits.

These are just a few of our favorite things that happened in 2017 - there are hundreds more, and we hope something wonderful happened to you at The Grand this year too!

Your support makes The Grand more than a movie theater.

Because of you, The Grand Cinema is a community resource where you can meet and learn from brilliant speakers, filmmakers, and panelists. When you visit The Grand you can experience powerful, provocative, and inspiring art, and connect with friends and strangers through your shared love of film.

At the close of every year, we ask for your help so we can do all the great work we do at The Grand, share the incredible films you love, and continue to build unique partnerships that empower and inspire our community.

Please give today. Click here to give online.

Our goal is to raise $45,000 by December 31, 2017 to ensure The Grand Cinema meets its annual operational needs. Your donation is 100% tax-deductible.
