Behind the story of Winnie the Pooh, and true love that saves lives in this week's Fresh Films.

This year's Tacoma Film Festival programming is off the chain! Our stellar Film Festival Director/Programmer, Laura, selected the best of the best of the best films from the nearly 1800 film submissions we had this year! Every year, I am completely blown away by the talent of the filmmakers who submitted films, both local and beyond, and this year is no different!

Ever wanted to spend time with a real live filmmaker and get free admission to a film festival? Our hosting program was so successful last year that we are doing it again. Support independent film by providing a resting space for a visiting filmmaker during TFF 2017.

Every other month, The Grand Cinema hosts a special Science on Screen event, pairing a film with a scientific presentation. For our June 12 Science on Screen, we connected with Korean astronaut Soyeon Yi to present before the film Hidden Figures. Once we started promoting the program, the Tacoma Action Collective reached out, sharing that by not including African American women in our presentation, we were excluding and erasing their contributions. We realized we had made a serious mistake and that we must make a change. Here's how we worked with the Tacoma Action Collective to right this wrong:

On April 22 at 11 PM, your weekly late-night cinephile infusion, Weird Elephant at the Grand Cinema, brings you The Void. Read a full review from our intern, Chase.

It is a poetic irony that a film can be so visually stunning, powerfully written, wonderfully acted, masterfully directed, and at the same time hard to look at. Land of Mine achieves just that as it tells the story of young German POWs who are tasked with removing thousands of mines with nothing more than their bare hands.

Springtime is an interesting season for movies at The Grand. The hubbub of awards are over, no one is bashing you over the head with summer hits, and some memorable films get quietly released. These films tend to hold their own better than the average movie and have an often distinct, not-your-run-of-the-mill personality to boot.

Hi there. My name is James Blanchard, and I'd like to tell you what it's like working as a design intern at The Grand Cinema.
