Traditions define the holiday season; sometimes resulting in a lot of fun, and sometimes trapping us into obligatory events where fun is not even a part of the equation.
At the end of each year we ask you to consider a meaningful donation to help keep the nonprofit Grand Cinema growing and thriving.
Every year we like to use this opportunity to connect with our supporters, to learn more about why they love The Grand, and to share those perspectives. This year, we sat down with volunteers, board members, and staff to hear their stories. Through December, you will here from Van, Winnie, Heather, Bernadette, Katy, Jason, Ken, Lu, and Christopher in our theaters and on social media, sharing why they care about the work of The Grand Cinema.

Why supporting The Grand Cinema through annual membership is awesome and worth every penny (and then some).
The relationship between The Grand and its members is symbiotic: members see films on our screens that are hard to find elsewhere, and enjoy all the extra bonuses that come along with membership. In return The Grand is able to keep providing high quality film art and programs to the Tacoma community. It’s a win-win.
To all those readers who are already members: thank you and please keep it up! And to anyone who has been wondering what membership at The Grand is all about, keep reading to learn what you get from becoming an active part of The Grand’s community.
Have you joined The Grand’s inner circle of member supporters? Whether you are already one of our 7,000 members or thinking about joining, read on for a list of our recently expanded members-only perks!
The Grand Cinema is a proud partner of Tacoma’s annual Pride festival, bringing the cinematic art of storytelling front and center. This year we are sharing LGBTQA stories of youth, creativity, and families - stories of discovery, identity, love, and expression.
Beyond the great content of our featured Pride films, we’re also inviting you to get inspired and to connect with our community through two very special events. Here’s what we’re doing for our 2016 Pride Film Series:
Film inspires us at The Grand Cinema to meet as many filmmakers as we can, pick their brains, help them meet other creatives, and showcase their work.
Obviously, since we’re in Tacoma, we’re particularly invested in our Northwest film community. Beyond our annual film festival, we’re also making more opportunities for filmmakers and artists to meet, connect, and collaborate.
This is the inspiration that led us to create TRACK - our local music video showcase sharing the newest and best in music videos created in the Northwest.

30+ Filmmakers were given 72 hours to create a short film lasting no more than 253 seconds. We watched all the finished works at a lively premiere party on a huge screen at Urban Grace earlier this month with nearly 700 friends.
The time has come: The Grand Cinema is ready to get our aging in-theater audio systems upgraded. And we need your help!
There are also a lot of fun perks for supporting our project: at different donor levels you can enjoy private screenings, parties, and cool opportunities to sign the new speakers! Read on to learn more about the project and how you can help:
A perk of working at a movie theater is that occasionally I get to see movies before the general public. One such film was Boy and the World - my kids even got to see it to weigh-in on bringing it to The Grand. Oh yeah, they felt cool for sure. The film was breathtaking. We were a laughing, crying, and inspired bunch on the couch that evening as we watched, and as we talked about it for weeks afterward.
So it is with great excitement that The Grand Cinema will be bringing this film to its screens, right in the middle of Spring Break, so you can experience it too. Read more about how wonderful this film is:
