A rare screening of a 1916 silent film treasure with live music!
This cozy family event offers a charming fairy tale film presented with Northwest harpist-composer Leslie McMichael's live harp & viola score. Leslie is excited to present this show and will be joined by her sister, Barbara McMichael, on viola. Leslie's score was commissioned by the Children's Film Festival Seattle for the 100th anniversary of the silent film, and the sisters have toured and performed across the U.S. with the movie.
More about the ACCOMPANIMENT
Harpist-composer Leslie McMichael has toured and played live with classic silent films throughout the U.S. at theatres, museums, and film festivals. Her work has been featured on the public radio show The Score when host Edmund Stone devoted an episode to New Scores for Silent Films. McMichael has received score commissions for silent film, animation, and dance, writing for harp, strings, and toy instruments. She lives on Vashon Island in Washington State.
Violist Barbara McMichael is a writer, book reviewer, and arts advocate. She and her artist husband are parents to two grown children. An ardent climate activist and gardener, she enjoys collaborating on music with her sister.
