Austin's The Invincible Czars have toured the country, performing original live scores for years. This June they’re returning to The Grand Cinema with their newest production- a spooky accompaniment for the 1920 silent film DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE. Released in 1920, the movie stars John Barrymore as both Jekyll and Hyde and is considered to be the first important American horror film. Based on the1886 Robert Louis Stevenson novel, the movie tells the story of scientist and philanthropist Dr. Henry Jekyll’s quest to separate man’s good and evil side.
The Invincible Czars’ original new soundtrack is innovative, experimental, includes audience participation, and features themes from Eric Satie’s Gnossienne No. 1 and No. 5 and the eerie Debussy piece Footsteps in the Snow. The Invincible Czars’ are: Leila Henley (winds, vocals, loops, percussion), Josh Robins (guitar, sound FX, percussion), Phil Davidson (violin, organ) and John McCane (bass).
