The Grand Cinema is proud to present a very special Weird Elephant. Directed by Torbjörn Axelman, Cowboy In Sweden(1970) is the surrealist, psychedelic journey of songwriter/record producer Lee Hazlewood’s(These Boots Are Made for Walkin’) move from Los Angeles to Sweden.

Featuring proto-music videos of some of Lee’s most beloved songs and Axelman’s cinematic visual ecstasy, the film has gained a cult following over years.

Long out of print and hard to find, the film received its first official US release by Seattle’s Light in the Attic Records, working with Tacoma record producer and Grammy-nominated curator Hunter Lea.

Included on their Lee Hazlewood Industries There’s A Dream I’ve Been Saving box set, the release was nominated for a Grammy in 2015.

Hunter has invited Lee’s friend and LHI recording artist Joe Cannon to the screening to perform some songs with a backing band of Tacoma musicians.

Joe’s song “Me, the wine, and the City Lights” was included as bonus track on Lee’s Cowboy in Sweden LP, he recorded an album, Cold Hard Times with Lee in 1970 and made the unreleased short film My Friend Joe with Torbjörn Axelman and Lee in 1971. We are very excited to have him!
