2019 TFF Opening Night
Celebrate Opening Night of the 14th annual Tacoma Film Festival at the Pantages Theater with a community event screening of the 2019 docu-thriller THE INFILTRATORS, in partnership with local immigrant rights and anti-deportation organizations.
Doors open at 6 PM. Arrive early to enjoy refreshments and meet film fans, filmmakers, and community groups before the film.
In THE INFILTRATORS, directors Cristina Ibarra and Alex Rivera present a hybrid cinematic language, combining familiar documentary form and scripted narrative to create a new, electrifying kind of storytelling; this part thriller, part documentary style is emblematic of the innovative storytelling for which TFF has come to be known.
The film presents the stunning true story of the National Immigrant Youth Alliance, a group of young undocumented activists who, in 2012, deliberately get themselves arrested by ICE in order to infiltrate a for-profit Florida detention center and help rescue fellow undocumented immigrants being held there. This story of courage and resistance galvanizes as it exposes the injustices of America’s broken deportation system.
CONVERSATION WITH THE DIRECTOR
Matt Martinez (Director of Content for KNKX) will facilitate a discussion with director Alex Rivera after the film, including an audience Q&A.
CONNECT WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS
Hear from local immigrant rights and anti-deportation activists and organizations in a resource-sharing reception before and after the film.
TFF's LARGEST COMMUNITY EVENT EVER
