Happening Post-Film Discussion

Join us following the 6:15pm screening of Happening for a post-film discussion with Leah Ford and Kim Abbey. Despite being set in 1963 France, this is a story that as just topical as today's headlines. Following a young woman who risks her health and freedom to get an illegal abortion, hoping to salvage her academic career and future.


Leah Ford is a Tacoma resident and mother of two with a special interest in addressing health disparities in the Black/African American community. Her professional background includes social justice, public health and issues related to children, youth and family health, equity and resilience. She is passionate about health equity issues in our community, access to care and the impact of racism on health. Kim Abbey has been a pro-choice activist for 50 years. She spent 24 years as a Nurse Practitioner in the for Seattle King County Health Department women's health clinic, where, among other things, she put in about 400 IUDs in her career. She's been a member of the League of Women Voters of WA for 5 years, where she has served on the volunteer legislative lobbyist team for 4 years, focusing on health care goals and cost containment. She lives in Olympia. The post film conversation will be facilitated by Davida Haygood, Interim Director of Education Programs at Pierce College.
