The Grand counts on the donated time of hundreds of volunteers to bring independent, documentary, and foreign films to Tacoma. Check out our volunteer opportunities below.
Volunteer at the Theater
We rely on volunteers to make the theater run 365 days a year. Volunteers work shifts ranging from 2 to 4 hours, taking tickets, making popcorn, and spending time with fun and interesting people of all ages. Volunteers receive one volunteer pass per shift worked.
The Grand is not currently seeking new volunteers.
The Grand Cinema is always looking to expand our network of film enthusiasts to lead weekend film discussions! Discussions are scheduled almost every weekend that a new film opens at the Grand Cinema. Many of the films that come to the Grand are of special interest, or fill specific niches (i.e. foreign language, religious, historical, etc.), and discussions for such films are that much more exciting if an expert facilitates the conversation (though this is not a requirement to be a discussion leader). These events are a staple at the Grand Cinema, and a favorite of the many patrons that support us. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the film and arts community. If you love movies and are interested in possibly facilitating a discussion or two, please email Laura Marshall at laura@grandcinema.com with a brief background about your experience with film. If you are added to our list, you'll receive emails about the upcoming film and scheduled discussion; it is then up to you to choose the films that interest you most. Discussion leaders receive free admission to the film for which they are leading a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you.
What's it like to volunteer at the Grand?

The Board meets monthly, usually the third Monday of the month, and is responsible for oversight of the cinema.
Nominations for the Board of Directors occurs are usually reviewed in January and February. Nominations are approved and mailed to Grand Cinema members in preparation for the Annual Meeting, usually in March. New Board Members are announced at the Annual Meeting.
