Enhancing Your Movie Experience

We offer several devices and services to support your hearing needs while enjoying films at The Grand. We provide infrared wireless headphones to enhance film audio. You can also try bringing your own headphones or use ours to plug into an infrared receiver. We also have neckloop technology to connect to your T-coil equipped hearing aids. Finally you can join us on an open captioned Wednesday to enjoy a film with on screen captioning. Please ask our box office manager for your preferred system when you purchase tickets to see a film.

Hearing Assistive Devices

Headsets
HEADSETS
Standalone headphones pick up an infrared audio transmission and convert it to audio signal. These headsets are very easy to use - just put them on, sit in range of the transmitter, turn them on, and adjust the volume.

Starsound Receiver

STARSOUND RECEIVERS, HEADPHONES/EARBUDS, OR NECKLOOPS

These are small infrared receivers that convey audio. You can bring your preferred headphone or earbuds to use with these devices or you can use a headset or neckloop provided by The Grand. To use, simply aim the receiver’s dome at the rear of the theater and control the volume on the side. These devices have higher fidelity than our standalone headphones. Please see our house manager for instructions on use.

Open Captioned Wednesdays

In order to best serve our patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing, we present our films with open captioning each Wednesday. We include this service on as many films and on every screening that we can.

WHAT IS OPEN CAPTIONING?

Open Captioning-150x150 with outline
Open captioning is a text display of words and sounds heard during an event.  The display is positioned in such a way that it is open for anyone to see in all four of our theaters. It is considered passive assistance, a service that is there to use or ignore.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Open captioning is a service provided for people with hearing disabilities who use assistive listening devices, hearing aids, cochlear implants, sign language and lip reading. About 10-15% of the population is hard of hearing or deaf.

We understand that captioning can be distracting for those who do not use it, but we are committed to making The Grand Cinema a welcoming community space for everyone. If you do not use the captions, we appreciate your consideration for those who do.
