CREATE, CELEBRATE, COLLABORATE: The Grand's new TRACK Series TRACK 01 Bruce Leroy Ayebblee Fly Moon Royalty

Film inspires us at The Grand Cinema to meet as many filmmakers as we can, pick their brains, help them meet other creatives, and showcase their work.

Obviously, since we’re in Tacoma, we’re particularly invested in our Northwest film community. Beyond our annual film festival, we’re also making more opportunities for filmmakers and artists to meet, connect, and collaborate.

This is the inspiration that led us to create TRACK - our local music video showcase sharing the newest and best in music videos created in the Northwest.

For Kids (and kids at heart)! Boy and the World boy and the world 1

A perk of working at a movie theater is that occasionally I get to see movies before the general public. One such film was Boy and the World - my kids even got to see it to weigh-in on bringing it to The Grand. Oh yeah, they felt cool for sure. The film was breathtaking. We were a laughing, crying, and inspired bunch on the couch that evening as we watched, and as we talked about it for weeks afterward.

So it is with great excitement that The Grand Cinema will be bringing this film to its screens, right in the middle of Spring Break, so you can experience it too. Read more about how wonderful this film is:

Stephen Chow's The Mermaid the-mermaid-poster

Flooded with slapstick comedy, unpolished CGI effects, outlandish satire, and disguised as an unlikely romance between a business tycoon and a sea loving mermaid, The Mermaid finds a deeply contemporary way to explore environmental mindfulness through activism. A must see! Read on:

5 reasons to come to the Film Awards Party Film_awards party _facebook event (00000005)

Out of all the events The Grand presents, the annual Film Awards Party is my absolute favorite of the year.

The red carpet, the glamour, the suspense - what more could you possibly want?

While there are close to a million reasons why you should take part in this event, here are my Top 5:

The Annual Grand Cinema Movie Poll cropped movie poll

Every year we ask you, our patrons, to tell us what films you loved and which ones you didn't. Take a moment and give us your hits and misses before polls close January 18!

Rare Exports: A Grand Holiday Tradition Pietari Kontio Rare Exports

There aren't a lot of truly great Christmas movies - and there are definitely not a lot of truly great Finnish action/horror/family Christmas movies. Lucky for us, Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is all of those things! Read more to hear how The Grand celebrates with this amazing movie.

See Spike Lee's Chi-Raq showing December 18-24 chi-raq

We've been eyeing Spike Lee's new film CHI-RAQ, trying to find screen space for it. The film was available to us last week but we didn't have screen space available to bring it in; it is after all a zero sum game: for a new film to come in, an old one has to leave.
